Fall Season Tune Up Ideas

fall tune up

Fall is the perfect time to tune up your car. The end of summer means that it’s back to the grind, which means you need your car to be in top condition. Additionally, it’s good to ensure that everything in your vehicle is running smoothly before winter arrives and brings tricky driving conditions. Here are some key things to look at.

Transmission

Transmission service is part of the routine maintenance that goes into keeping your car in prime condition. There are several different types of transmission servicing available and your mechanic will be able to tell you which is best for your vehicle. It’s possible that the transmission fluid will need to be replaced, or that the filter will need to be updated, among other things.

Cooling System

Your car’s cooling system helps keep the engine’s temperature under control. A solution of antifreeze and water is kept flowing through the system, which is made up of the radiator, water pump, thermostat and hoses. It’s good to get the system checked so that any issues can be addressed and the fluid can be refilled if needed.

Exhaust

Issues with the exhaust are quite common and can require costly repairs if they’re not taken care of before they worsen. That’s why it’s important to catch problems early on. There are a lot of pieces, big and small, that make up the exhaust system and a technician can give it a once over to make sure it’s all up to standard.

Climate Control System

In order to ensure you’re comfortable throughout the cold months, your car’s heating and AC systems need to be working well. Some red flags that your heating or cooling system may need repairs include steam coming from the hood, discoloured coolant or the need to add coolant more often than usual.

Battery

Your battery should be checked every few months for signs of leakage or corrosion. If these issues occur, the battery needs to be cleaned or repaired by a professional as soon as possible. If your battery is no longer holding sufficient charge, it’s likely worn out and needs to be replaced.
